I tagged 38 on your first outing and maintain a high success rate with follow-up shots really speaks to how well the ammo is suited for this task. Other outings were in the 40's. The fields are clean.
A couple of things stand out in my experience:
1 in 3 of the squirrels were successfully dropped, with the others disappearing into their holes. This suggests the ammo is both powerful enough to do the job at close range and also gives you the chance to control the situation over multiple outings. Ground squirrels can be tricky to deal with, so having a round that gives you that kind of reliability makes a huge difference.
This round is much quieter than the 17-caliber pellet gun, which is a huge advantage if you're in a sensitive or populated area where noise could be an issue. Not having a loud report helps maintain a low profile, which is ideal for pest control.
Safety: Given the proximity to your target areas (ground squirrel holes), having a round that's both effective and safe is a big plus. You wouldn’t want anything too high-powered that could potentially pose a risk to the environment or bystanders.
Note: I am retired from education. . I have hunted several states and Africa. I have no connection to any ammo company. Just my opinion.
Look good
These shorts are excellent for rodents you need to get rid of on your property. Bullet speed is only 710 FPS, subsonic, with a 29 grain bullet, and vey quiet. Ideal for getting those unwanted vermin such as rats, squirrels, chipmunks off your property if you have neighbors nearby. With a speed of 710 fps there is little noise yet powerful enough to pass completely through a 1/4" plywood plank with no effort and very little noise.
