In the golden era of the TV Western, Steve Mcqueen, the star of "Wanted: Dead or Alive" rode across black-and-white screens with a never-before-seen sidearm. His cut-down repeater, the Mare's Leg, could be holstered like a revolver but fired with the speed and precision of a lever action rifle.
This innovative weapon brought outlaws to justice every week - and rose to fame as the real star of the series.
The show was short-lived, but the legend of the Mare's Leg lived on. Now, fans of classic westerns and collectors of unique firearms can saddle up with the Henry Classic Rimfire Mare's Leg - a lever action pistol manufactured in the spirit and style of the original.
Built in the USA to Henry's exacting standards of quality and craftsmanship, this rimfire Mare's Leg variant is chambered for America's most common cartridge - .22 S/L/LR. Each Mare's Leg wears a select, handcrafted walnut furniture set cut to a similar specification as the original. The standard large loop lever aids in rapid-fire repeating shots, and a receiver-mounted saddle ring adds some Western flair to the package.
The Mare's Leg is a featherweight at 4.45 lbs and measures exactly 25" in overall length. Fully adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sights and a hooded blade front sight sit atop the 12.875" blued steel barrel, and a grooved receiver allows for easy optic mounting.
Today's outdoorsmen value the Mare's Leg for the same reasons Mcqueen did - it's light, ultra-portable, quick to draw from a scabbard, and just plain fun. That's to say unholstering a Mare's leg won't make you a lawman of the Wild West, but it will certainly make you feel like one.
